Hits: 223

December 7 and 8 were big days for Day Centers. Youth for Christ, which is broadening the ministry, have organized Ukrainian Forum for those, who serve in DCs. The Forum gathered together 140 Christians, who see their calling in social work such as outreach of children at risk.

The participants of the meeting came to Irpin from all over Ukraine: Volyn, Donetsk, Lviv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskiy,  Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Ternopil regions. Some of the teams serve in the Day Centers for years, and others were guided by their dream and calling to organize a new DC in their cities and towns.

The Forum aimed at getting acquainted, mutual exchange of experience and answering the current questions and challenges, concerning the social ministry for children at risk and their families.

Some people, who visited DCs while being children, shared their stories about their past DC memories and current work in DCs. Now they do serve a new generation of children. The participants were overwhelmed to hear the stories of how God changed the lives via the ministry. Tetiana Filipova, a former DC participant, is the host of the Forum, the DC leader, and a YFC staff member now.  Svitlana Kovalenko, one of the first workers in this area, shared with the participants of the Forum the story about the DC movement in Ukraine, that was started 16 years ago.

The Honorable speaker of the meeting was Mykola Kuleba, the Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Children's Rights. In his speech, he told about the prospects of DC work on the state level. Meanwhile, his team helps YFC with the methodology for the DC.

During the seminars, the participants got a lot of useful information on how to start the work of the DC, on the legal framework of the social ministry, how to motivate children to study and how to work with children with deviant behavior. There were also seminars about the relationship with the partners of the ministry, teamwork, security of the children in the Internet and social work with families. The feedback showed that information was relevant and useful, and what is more important, profound and targeted precisely at the work of the DC.

The participants took part in teambuilding activities to strengthen the teamwork. It was an excellent opportunity to get new ideas and organize the same activities for the local DC teams.

Prayer time was held in the evening. The participants prayed for their children’s future, their dreams and families. It was a fantastic time of unity in prayer. During that evening, YFC motivated to pray even more for children every day, while working with them. Thanks to YFC Eastern Europe and Wake Up Deborah ministry, the participants had the opportunity to get the book about praying for the teenagers.

On the second day of the conference, Dmytro Matiukhin, the head of the social department of the Baptist churches Union, encouraged the attendees to always make the right choice in their lives and ministries, and the worker of the mission “The Light of Resurrection” Andriy Malov called all the present for the dedicated work. Before the end of the conference, all the Day Centers, the representatives of which were present at the Forum, could get the presents for their ministry from YFC Ukraine. From V. Basenko and S. Musienko, they provided honey for children in Day Centers, and also the literature from the mission “Eurasia.”

The YFC team is extremely grateful to all those, who took part in the organization and the conducting of the Forum. It is so pleasant to realize, that together with the partners, who joined the organization of the Forum, we could serve so many servants of God, who in their turn, help thousands of children from the families at risk.  The participants were contented, and they want to visit more meetings like this in the future.  Therefore YFC is planning to continue organizing the conferences of the same kind – regional, as well as All-Ukrainian in scope. Join the support of this crucial ministry. Become a part of the significant movement of the Day Centers in Ukraine and cause changes in the lives of children and their families together with YFC!
